The area of Spring Branch, Texas is located in Comal County, about 20 miles northwest of New Braunfels and 37 miles north of downtown San Antonio. The area originally was built along a portion of the Guadalupe River, and named for a creek that flows into the Guadalupe.
Although accounts vary, everyone agrees that the Spring Branch area was settled by German immigrants shortly before the Civil War. The area shares many services such as library, fire & EMS, and chamber of commerce, with nearby Bulverde, TX. The areas north of Highway 46 are Spring Branch and the areas south of Highway 46 are Bulverde.
The area is considered largely residential, but new growth in the area includes Walmart anchoring a large shopping center on Hwy 281. HEB, Tractor Supply, Home Depot are also present. A major source of recreation in this area is, not surprisingly, the beautiful Guadalupe River.
